Jeeps begin state tourney with comeback win

From Herald Staff Reports

The Dubois Little League All-Stars kicked off the 8-10U Indiana State Little League Tournament in New Albany with a thrilling 9-8 comeback victory over Don Ayres, a team located in Fort Wayne.

The Jeeps found themselves trailing 8-0 just three innings into the contest but they quickly worked their way back into the game with a run in the third inning and a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it an 8-7 ball game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brycen Mroz reached base on a walk and Eli Schroering reached base with a single. After the runners advanced to second and third with just one out, Noah Fawks got a base hit to right center field to score both Mroz and Schroering for the walk-off victory.

Mroz, Schroering, Fawks, Jake Kluesner and Sam Beck all pitched in the game while Gabe Neukam and Mroz were the Jeep catchers in Thursday night’s game. Dubois will be back in action today at 3 p.m. EST against Brownsburg.
