Jeep lands in ditch, driver goes to jail

FERDINAND — Police accused a woman of impaired driving after a mishap early Sunday east of Ferdinand.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says the 12:36 a.m. accident involved a 2007 Jeep Wrangler in a ditch at Convent Road and County Road 350E.

The driver, Rachel M. Welp, 55, 932 E. 14th St., Ferdinand, allegedly had a blood alcohol content that tested .20 percent at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities booked Welp into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:55 a.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated. She posted bond early Sunday evening.

Full details on the accident were not immediately available but the Ferdinand Police Department, Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Berg’s Garage wrecker assisted.
