Jeep finds Jasper-area ditch

JASPER — No tow truck was needed when a Jeep found its way into a ditch Saturday night along a county road west of Jasper.

William M. Schmitt, 16, Jasper, was northbound on County Road 350W in a 2003 Jeep Wrangler when the 9:15 p.m. mishap occurred south of County Road 300N, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

Schmitt told a deputy he looked down at his phone, ran slightly off the roadway and his Jeep was pulled into the ditch.

Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
