Jeep encounters Holland-area deer herd

HOLLAND — The driver of a Jeep was unable to avoid all the deer he encountered Wednesday night at Holland.

Michael L. Kilian, 52, Jasper, was northbound on State Road 161 in a 2009 Jeep Wrangler when the 8:03 p.m. accident occurred by Holland’s Meridian Street, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

Kilian stated he spotted a herd of deer near the highway and tried to avoid them. One animal was struck and killed.

Damage to the Kilian Jeep was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
