Jasper's Goebel named Coach of the YearFebruary 26, 2020

The latest accomplishment for Jasper's John Goebel comes as recognition from the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association.
The HBCA named Goebel its District 2 Coach of the Year. Goebel has the Wildcats sitting at 16-5 entering today's regular season finale. Jasper reeled off a nine-game winning streak earlier this year, and the Wildcats have currently won four games in a row.
Goebel is in his 13th season coaching Jasper, and is 180-118 in those 13 seasons. He led the Wildcats to their first-ever win against Castle, a 75-73 overtime win Feb. 14, and also guided them to the last-ever Big Eight Conference Championship this season with a 39-36 edge Feb. 18 at Princeton.
The Wildcats will look to successfully defend last year's sectional championship, starting Tuesday against Evansville Harrison. Goebel also led Jasper to a sectional crown in the 2013-14 season.
