Jasper's Goebel named Coach of the YearFebruary 26, 2020
From Herald Staff Reports
The latest accomplishment for Jasper's John Goebel comes as recognition from the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association.
The HBCA named Goebel its District 2 Coach of the Year. Goebel has the Wildcats sitting at 16-5 entering today's regular season finale. Jasper reeled off a nine-game winning streak earlier this year, and the Wildcats have currently won four games in a row.
Goebel is in his 13th season coaching Jasper, and is 180-118 in those 13 seasons. He led the Wildcats to their first-ever win against Castle, a 75-73 overtime win Feb. 14, and also guided them to the last-ever Big Eight Conference Championship this season with a 39-36 edge Feb. 18 at Princeton.
The Wildcats will look to successfully defend last year's sectional championship, starting Tuesday against Evansville Harrison. Goebel also led Jasper to a sectional crown in the 2013-14 season.
