Jasper woman to host group exercise for momsMay 12, 2021

JASPER — Ever since her oldest daughter was born eight years ago, Aleesha Lopez has always found it difficult to find time for the gym, she said.
The Jasper mother-of-three is a fitness buff, but sometimes her workouts now have to consist of YouTube exercise videos at her house.
“One of the things I’ve realized about having kids is that sometimes it’s hard to exercise when you’ve got them around,” she said. “I know we’ve got the YMCA in Ferdinand, but there’s not many places in town where you can exercise and have kids be present or taken care of.”
Lopez, a certified personal trainer, plans to host an outdoor exercise class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. throughout the month of June at Buehler Park in Jasper. The classes will be open to those without children but are intended to work for mothers with young children.
The classes, which will consist of several circuit stations, will circle around a playground at the park. That way, the children can play on the playground in the middle and the women can exercise while keeping an eye on them.
“And if they need to step away to take care of their kid, it’ll be easy to jump right back in,” Lopez said.
Lopez said she first had the idea when she was attending a group exercise class for moms while visiting her sister in Utah. It mostly just involved exercises while walking with strollers, but she enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with fellow moms and move her body.
“I was like, ‘How can I take that type of mom camaraderie,” she said, “but apply it to something other than just walking?”
Lopez is in the process of starting a personal training business called Sustainable Fitness for Women. She said she will be able to travel to clients’ homes and use portable gym equipment to provide training tailored to their individual goals.
“My objective with the whole thing is to help women stay active in ways that are going to be sustainable throughout different phases of life,” she said.
Those interested in signing up for the June exercise classes can reach Lopez by emailing email@example.com or texting/calling her at 909-763-0138.
