From Local Sources
SHOALS — A Dubois County woman was charged with felony impaired driving after a weekend traffic stop in Martin County.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports receiving a tip about a possible impaired driver weaving all over the roadway at 9:55 p.m. Friday. A deputy then reports observing a vehicle driven by Ashley L. Luegers, 25, 1300 Dewey St., Jasper.
Police allege the vehicle ran over a center lane divider when making a turn, weaved in its lane of travel and went 58 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Authorities allege Luegers showed signs of impairment after a traffic stop, failed field sobriety testing and was found to have opiates in her system when given a chemical test at the Daviess County Hospital.
Luegers was booked into the Martin County Jail at 1:40 a.m. Saturday and then, on Tuesday, was formally charged in Martin Circuit Court with Level 6 felony operating while intoxicated (drugs) and misdemeanor operating while intoxicated (endangerment).
Police said the impaired driving charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction for the offense within the last five years.
