JASPER — A Jasper woman was taken into custody after a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
The Jasper Police Department initiated a traffic stop at 12:24 a.m. after an officer observed a car fail to come to a complete stop at 15th and Jackson streets. During the incident, the officer alleged, the front seat passenger could be seen throwing a small object out the window.
That passenger, Nichole R. Shelley, 35, 2200 Mill St., Jasper, denied throwing anything out of the automobile when questioned, according to police.
Police searching the area found the thrown item, which contained a green, leafy material that field tested positive as marijuana.
Authorities booked Shelley into the Dubois County Security Center at 1:02 a.m. on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony obstruction of justice and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
