Jasper VFW Post #673 Auxiliary

Jasper VFW Post #673 Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 18, 2021, at the post home. President Carrie Vonderheide called the meeting to order and conducted opening ceremonies. In absence of the chaplain, President Vonderheide gave opening prayers. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

Secretary Connie Thewes reports no new petitions for membership this month.

Secretary Thewes read minutes of the July meeting. The minutes were approved as read. General Orders were read. There was also a letter from the department president, Linda Misuraca, notifying us that auxiliary bond is due to renew Aug. 31 and that quarterly audit is due Aug. 31.

Treasurer Diane Brescher read financial reports for July. The reports were filed subject to audit.

On the business of a 2021 Christmas party, the date for this year’s event has been set for Dec. 3. Chairwoman Jane Schaeffer reports that good progress has been made on prize donations.

President Vonderheide named Jane Vogler as chairwoman of the 2021 Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Competition. This year’s theme is “How can I be a good American?” Press release will be sent to newspapers, and entry forms will be delivered to schools. Entry deadline is Oct. 31.

Closing ceremonies were conducted in accordance with the ritual. The meeting was closed with prayer by President Vonderheide, after which the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jasper post, 3131 Newton St. All members are encouraged to attend.
