Jasper teacher receives Peabody award

From local sources

JASPER — Jasper High School ethics, psychology and choir teacher Stephanie Jackman-Burns was named a Peabody Energy Leader in Education at a surprise convocation this afternoon.

Jackman-Burns received a $1,000 check and will be eligible for a regional prize of $5,000 to be awarded later in the school year. In a press release, Peabody Energy said Jackman-Burns was chosen for the award because she “has cultivated a student-centered classroom environment where students feel comfortable freely exchanging thoughts and ideas.” She has been with JHS for 19 years.

The Peabody Energy Leaders in Education campaign recognizes leaders in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Wyoming in communities where Peabody Energy, a private-sector coal company, operates.
