From Local Sources

JASPER — The Jasper Reds, believed to be the oldest semipro baseball team in the country, will begin the 2019 season this Sunday with a doubleheader against the Saline County (Ill.) Monarchs.

The doubleheader will take place at the Jasper High School sports complex with game one set to start at 3 p.m.

Bill Alles returns for his 21st season as manager while Kris Weisheit will take over the duties as third base coach, in addition to being a member of the pitching staff. Bob Alles will once again serve as the team’s business manager, his 47th season with the club.

Last year in their 125th anniversary season, the Reds finished with an undefeated regular season record for the first time ever at 18-0.
