JASPER — Police arrested a woman and accused her of impaired driving and neglect after a Monday evening traffic stop.
A Jasper Police Department officer stopped a 2007 Mercedes Benz passenger car driven by Krista D. Schmitt, 43, 51 Arlington Court, Jasper, at 7:45 p.m. after allegedly noticing the vehicle’s license plate was expired while patrolling in the vicinity of 15th and Newton streets. The traffic stop occurred at Fourth and Main streets.
Police who noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage reported that Schmitt, whose juvenile daughter was in the vehicle, admitting to drinking.
After field sobriety testing, police administered a certified breath test at the Jasper Police Station that placed Schmitt’s blood alcohol content at .088 percent, according to authorities.
Schmitt was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:39 p.m. on preliminary charges that included Level 6 felony counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger who is under 18 years old and neglect of a dependent.
