JASPER — The Jasper Police Department took a man into custody Friday, accusing him of a burglary reported the previous day.
Police were dispatched to the report of a burglary at an 885 Conrad Ave. apartment after residents returned home to find pry marks on a door frame and items, including expensive jewelry, missing.
A break in the case occurred Friday when, police said, the suspect had fraudulently cashed one of the victim’s checks. An investigation led a Jasper detective to secure a search warrant for another apartment in the Conrad Avenue complex where some of the stolen items were recovered.
Police arrested Carlos D. Cuello Martinez, 20, 885 Conrad Ave.
Authorities booked Cuello Martinez into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:04 p.m. Friday on preliminary charges of Level 4 felony residential burglary and Level 6 felony theft and counterfeiting/forgery.
Indiana State Police and the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office assisted.
