Jasper police arrest accused Walmart shoplifter

JASPER — Police placed a man under arrest Sunday afternoon and accused him of shoplifting at the Walmart Supercenter, 4040 N. Newton St.

The Jasper Police Department was dispatched to the store at 2:30 p.m. when it was reported asset protection staff had detained a man.

Onell J. Ortiz Ortiz, 28, 675 Giesler Road, Jasper, is accused of attempting to steal merchandise valued at $157.09 that included two pairs of sunglasses.

Police said the items were recovered and Ortiz Ortiz was transported to the Dubois County Security Center where he was booked at 3:14 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of theft.
