JASPER — A Jasper man is facing charges that include rape, confinement and battery following a multi-agency investigation that began early Sunday.

At 4 a.m., the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the Boonville Police Department reporting that they had come across a female victim that had allegedly been assaulted in Dubois County. The Boonville officer advised he was transporting the victim to a Warrick County hospital emergency room for treatment of her injuries.

A Dubois County sheriff’s deputy went to the Warrick County hospital to meet with the officer and interview the victim.

Police say the victim appeared to have suffered multiple injuries to her face and head area.

After the injuries were documented and an interview performed, the deputy returned to Dubois County and secured a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Isaac W. Stewart, 38, 1844 S. State Road 162, Jasper.

Deputies and Jasper Police Department officers executed the warrants around 9 a.m.

Authorities booked Stewart into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:55 a.m. on the active warrant charging him with a Level 1 felony count of rape, a Level 3 felony count of criminal confinement, Level 5 felony counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and battery with a deadly weapon and a Level 6 felony count of strangulation. Stewart is being held without bond.

An Indiana State Police crime scene unit was called in to process the scene.

Police say it is an ongoing investigation.
