Jasper man faces firearm possession charge

JASPER — An investigation by the Jasper Police Department resulted in a man coming to jail Thursday on a warrant charging him with a Level 4 felony count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Police received information Sept. 24 that Calvin L. Mattingly, 57, 1352 Maple Leaf Drive, Jasper, had a handgun at his residence despite being a convicted felon. Police investigated the complaint and discovered a handgun described as a Pietta .44 caliber black powder revolver.

A warrant for Mattingly’s arrest was issued Friday out of Dubois Circuit Court.

Authorities booked Mattingly into the Dubois County Security Center on the active warrant at 5 p.m. Thursday.
