HOLLAND — Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers have yet to release the name of a Jasper man who died early Saturday after falling into a private lake north of Holland.
Authorities were alerted to the report of a missing swimmer at a lake in the 6000 block of South State Road 161, about a half-mile south of State Road 64, at 2:09 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses said several people were swimming in the lake on private property when the victim fell from an elevated diving structure and hit his head before entering the water. The other swimmers attempted but were unable to rescue him, according to authorities.
A search operation began when authorities arrived on scene, with a conservation officer diver recovering the victim at 4:16 a.m.
Authorities said the accident is still under investigation and the victim’s name would be released once there was confirmation of family notification. The autopsy was to have occurred Sunday.
