Jasper man charged in Martin County

LOOGOOTEE — Authorities in Martin County formally charged a Jasper man on multiple counts that included domestic battery, intimidation and residential entry this week.
The charges against Howard N. Phillips, 32, 260 W. 44th St., Jasper, stem from alleged acts reported to the Loogootee Police Department during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, April 9.
Phillips is alleged to have physically assaulted and threatened the life of a female and to have unlawfully gained entry to a home where police found and took him into custody the night of April 9. He was also accused of unlawfully possessing capsules that require a prescription to obtain, according to court documents.
Phillips was booked into the Martin County Security Center at 9:51 p.m. on Thursday, April 9. Authorities then formally charged him Monday in Martin Circuit Court with Level 6 felony counts of intimidation, residential entry and unlawful possession of a legend (prescription) drug, plus misdemeanor counts of battery, domestic battery and criminal trespass.
The Shoals Town Marshal, Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Martin County Emergency Medical Services assisted.
