JASPER — A Jasper man was arrested for battery Saturday morning, including battery against an officer.
Devonte J. Chatman, 29, 404 E. 14th St., was charged with domestic battery and battery against a public safety official, both Level 6 felonies, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana, both Class A misdemeanors, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
Jasper officers were called at 1:15 a.m. Saturday for a possible domestic incident in the area of 14th and Dewey streets. The male subject, identified at Chatman, fled, but was found at Vine and 14th streets. It was determined Chatman battered a female subject, police said. Officers attempted to detain Chatman but he resisted arrest, police said. The Dubois County Sheriff's Office was called to scene to assist officers, and Chatman was detained, police said.
The victim came to the police station and reported that she and Chatman were in an argument and it became physical. Chatman admitted to police that he pushed the victim.
Chatman was lodged into the Dubois County Security Center.
