JASPER — Police arrested a man early Sunday after it was reported he threatened to rape a female victim and then prevented her from telling authorities.
The Jasper Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Dewey Street at 2:23 a.m. after receiving a 911 hang-up call and subsequently making contact with the female victim.
Police say an investigation determined Michael Howard, 32, 1300 Dewey St., Apt. 318, had threatened to rape the female, at which time she attempted to call 911. Howard is alleged to have then took the phone away from the female, preventing her from contacting help.
Authorities booked Howard into the Dubois County Security Center at 4:13 a.m. On a preliminary Level 6 felony count of intimidation and a preliminary misdemeanor count of interference with reporting a crime, then added two additional preliminary charges: Level 6 felony counts of strangulation and domestic battery.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
