JASPER — The Jasper Public Library has events planned for August.
Technology help will be provided from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 13, 20 and 27. Attendees may bring their own devices or use their laptops. Downland and sign up for new apps or accounts online. The librarians will be available to guide attendees through the process.
The DNA Interest Group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Discussions will be led by Mike Humbert and Kathy Mott at the library. Genealogy research, DNA testing options and dealding with results will be covered during discussions.
Moon Sand Craft Day will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2. Kids ages 6 and older can join a librarian in the library’s theater to make moon sand.
Kids are asked to wear clothes they can get messy in. Preregistration is required.
The Manga Anime Gaming Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Join other avid gamers, anime lovers and future mangaka for fun activities, great films and friendly competition. Participants are asked to bring whatever portable gaming system and games they enjoy to play against each other. Bring card games to compete with friends or trade cards to build an awesome deck. Watch a different anime with fellow fans. There is something for everyone. Children ages 7 and younger should bring a guardian to accompany them.
The library is closed on Sunday, Aug. 4, due to the Strassenfest parade.
Duplo will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the library’s annex. Parents are invited to bring children ages 2 through 5 to build with the library’s Duplo blocks. No registration is required.
The Afternoon Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Ask a librarian for more information. Pick up a copy of the book at the library if interested in joining. This month’s selection is “Rocket Boys” by Homer Hickam.
The Lego Club will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. Legos will be provided for building and creating during this time.
Baby/toddler playtime will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. Parents and children can enjoy some social time while playing with toys the library is providing during this playtime. No registration is required.
Knot Just Knitting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. This group is open to anyone who is interested in working on group or individual projects. Participants will learn from each other and offer encouragement and fellowship along the way. People are to call the library if they have questions. Looms and knitting needles are available for people to check out or try out before purchasing their own.
The Book Cellar is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Friends of the Library will hold a book sale.
Blood pressure checks will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19. A nurse will be available to offer free blood pressure checks monthly at the library.
Make ‘N Take for adults will start at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug 19. Details will be announced. Registration will open approximately one month before the program. Preregistration is required.
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. The blood mobile will be parked at the Jasper Library Annex and sign in will take place in the meeting room of the annex. Those with appointments get priority; drop-ins will be taken as time permits. The evening book club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27. Pick up a copy of “The Secrets Between Us” by Thirty Umrigar from the library staff. New members are always welcome.
Kids’ Korner Book Club will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. The library is starting a book club on Thursdays for young children to introduce basic concepts of picture books and to help children learn basic comprehension skills. A librarian will read a picture book and discuss the book in greater length and ask the children simple questions for them to think about. The children will vote at the end of the meeting which book to read the next month. Snacks will be provided.
Library hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
