While rain-soaked fields forced the postponement of several area softball games, two local track and field teams cruised to home sweeps on Thursday evening.
Here’s a brief rundown of Thursday’s prep track and field action.
Track and Field
Cats defeat Blackhawks, Rebels: The Jasper boys and girls track teams cruised to victory over Springs Valley and South Spencer at home on Thursday evening. While final scores and stats weren’t reported from the boys meet, the girls finished with 89 points with Springs Valley taking second (51) and South Spencer placing third (26).
First place finishers for the girls were Alyssa Skorge (1600m run, 5:29.95), Brynn Schwartz (400m dash, 1:05.73), Kalen Jochum (800m run, 2:46.88), Kelsea Skorge (3200m run, 13:28.42), Marissa Bradley (shot put, 31’1’’), Aliyah Schwenk (long jump, 16’4.5’’) and the 400, 1600 and 3200 relay teams.
Individual event results were not reported from the boys meet.
Rangers win over conference foe: The Forest Park boys and girls track teams opened up their regular season with a victory over Pocket Athletic Conference rival North Posey in Ferdinand. The boys were victorious 77-55 while the girls were 65-55 winners.
First place finishers for the Rangers on the boys side were Corbin Bell (discus - 115’1’’, shot put - 46’10.5’’), Spenser Wolf (1600m run - 5:05, 3200m run - 10:44), Alex Weyer (300m hurdles, 47.46), Ethan Hall (800m run, 2:29), Ben Kluesner (pole vault, 10’3’’) as well as the 1600m relay and 3200m relay teams.
For the girls, first place finishers were Claire Mehling (1600m run, 3200m run - 12:50), Josie Berg (400m dash, 1:08.62), Katelyn Englert (300m hurdles, 51.37), Maria Cruz (discus - 65’0’’, shot put - 26’5’’), Lauren Jahn (long jump, 12’11’’) and the 4x400 relay team.
