Jasper firefighters answer 2 brief calloutsNovember 14, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — Units of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department made brief runs early Wednesday afternoon.
The first callout, at 12:15 a.m., was to the Vincennes University Jasper Campus administrative building at 850 College Ave.
Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang said a heating system motor failed, triggering an alarm and putting the smell of smoke in the air.
Three trucks and 23 firefighters responded and turned the situation over to maintenance staff after about 10 minutes on scene.
Then, at 12:41 a.m., an emergency panic alarm sounded from the Vine Street Lofts elevator at 1308 Vine St.
Firefighters arrived to discover a resident had pushed the elevator’s fire alarm button. There was no problem.
One truck and 17 firefighters were on the scene 10 minutes.
