The Jasper Police Department says the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department’s narcotics officer received the information about possible drug activity at a 43rd Street apartment complex. Officers went to look into the tip just after 1 p.m., taking Jasper K-9 Ares with them.

During a free-air sniff, police said, Ares indicated on the presence of narcotics at the 420 W. 43rd St. apartment unit of 47-year-old Kent E. Krodel. Also present were Jessica L. Escobedo, 31, 1103 Oakwood Drive, Huntingburg, and Mark A. Opel, 42, 5423 W. Stewart Road, Jasper.

After being denied consent to search, police applied for and were granted a search warrant for the apartment.
Officers say they located multiple devices for smoking methamphetamine, a small scale, marijuana and a pill that was determined to be a controlled substance.

Police took all three occupants into custody and lodged them at the Dubois County Security Center. Krodel is preliminarily charged with a Level 6 felony count of methamphetamine possession and misdemeanor counts of possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Escobedo and Opel are both preliminarily charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Indiana State Police and the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office also assisted.
