Jasper doctor files for U.S. Congress runFebruary 14, 2018

Dr. Richard Moss of Jasper has filed his candidacy to run for congressman of Indiana Congressional District 8, which covers 20 counties including Dubois, Perry, Pike and Spencer.
Moss is a board certified head and neck cancer surgeon. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and has been in practice in Jasper and Washington for more than 20 years.
Moss is running as a Republican and constitutional conservative. He believes the Republican Party is no longer a truly conservative party, and he wants to see that change.
“I have deep concerns about the direction of our country and the behavior of our federal government,” Moss said recently in a talk before the Second Amendment Patriots in Evansville. “I believe that the greatest threat facing this country is not Iran, Russia, China or ISIS but Washington, D.C. It is career politicians in both parties who go to Washington, cut deals with each other, grow the size of government, and bankrupt our children.”
He said his platform will be based on four principles — American values, opportunity for all, liberty and American strength.
American values, he said, include promoting a culture of faith and family. Opportunity for all “is the way to prosperity for everyone including the poor, the young, and working Americans left behind.” He said freedom, or liberty, is “at the heart of American greatness and exceptionalism. American strength includes rebuilding the country’s national defense.
“This world is safer and America is safer when we have the strongest military in the world,” he said.
Moss is married with four children. He attends a synagogue in Evansville and is a member of the Indiana State Medical Association.
