Cross country teams advance to semi-state

MARENGO — Both the Jasper boys and girls cross country teams advanced to semi-state after earning Top 3 finishes in regionals on Saturday. The boys team finished second overall with 52 points, while the Wildcat girls finished third with 84. Senior Jackson Miller was the top finisher overall for the boys with a time of 15:56, while senior Drew O’Neil took fourth at 16:22. Sophomore Andi VanMeter took second overall for the girls in a time of 18:59.

The Forest Park and Northeast Dubois girls teams will also be representing Dubois County at semi-state, having finished second and fourth, respectively, at regionals. The Rangers scored 72 points, while the Jeeps finished with 115. Rangers sophomore Ellie Hall finished third overall at 19:26, and Jeeps freshman Jordan Schweikarth took fourth place with a time of 19:34. Rangers senior Josie Berg also finished in the Top 10 with a time of 20:38.

A few other local runners will be advancing to regional after finishing among the Top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams. Rangers sophomore Spenser Wolf finished second overall at 16:07, and will be joined by teammate Bryce Troesch (17:21) at semi-state. Southridge juniors Dylan Bland (16:28) and Cameron Giles (17:10), along with Northeast Dubois junior Pierce Brinkman (16:41), will also move on to the next level.

For the girls, Heritage Hills junior Katie Winkler (20:40) and Southridge senior Brooklyn Tretter (21:45) advanced to semi-state as individuals.
