The first Saturday of 2020 was busy just like the ones of 2019 were. The Dubois County Herald has the lodown on all the action.
IHSWCA Team State Duals: Southridge placed second in Class 1A of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Saturday at the Fort Wayne Coliseum. They finished runner-up to North Posey. There were 12 teams that competed in the class. Five individual wrestlers went 3-1 for Southridge, while senior Cade Patton was 4-0 in the 285-pound class.
Prep boys basketball
Jasper 58, Evansville North 41: The Wildcats (6-2) won their season-high third consecutive game thanks in part to senior Carter Stamm's 15 points. They'll look to push it to a fourth straight game Friday at home against Vincennes Lincoln.
Southridge 53, Christian Academy 42: The Raiders (5-6) prevailed in the opening round of the Baird Winter Classic on their home floor Saturday. Junior Colson Montgomery had 20 points and seven rebounds. Senior Garrett Voegerl added 15.
Barr-Reeve 50, Southridge 45: The Vikings remained undefeated by claiming the championship against the Raiders. Montgomery scored a game-high 26 points. Junior Sam Sermersheim dropped 11. The Raiders are scheduled to be back at it Tuesday at Princeton.
Forest Park 53, Springs Valley 49: The Rangers (9-1) hung on in a squeaker on Saturday. Senior Isaac Uebelhor led the team with 22 points. The Rangers are back at it Jan. 11 at home against Perry Central.
Heritage Hills 72, Evansville Memorial 28: The Patriots (6-3) started off their new year by snapping a two-game skid in emphatic fashion. Senior Murray Becher paced the team with 26 points. Junior Blake Sisley chipped in 13. Senior Cayden Kratzer contributed 12 and fellow senior Simon Scherry added 11. The Pats are scheduled to play Friday at Gibson Southern for their next outing.
Prep girls basketball
Jasper 64, Evansville Harrison 32: The Wildcats (7-8) picked up their third straight victory Saturday night with a rout on the road. Senior Claire Knies led the way with 17 points, and fellow senior Brooke Nottingham finished with 13. Sophomore Aspen Sermersheim scored eight. Jasper's next scheduled game is Thursday at Forest Park.
