Janice “Elaine” Werne, 67, Dale
August 26, 2020Janice “Elaine” Werne, age 67, of Dale, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at her residence.

She was born August 25, 1953, in Dubois County, to William “Harold” and Jerri “Marta” (Crews) Simpson; and married Donald Werne on September 4, 1971, at the St. Meinrad Catholic Church. Elaine graduated from Dale High School and was a member of the Gentryville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and following her grandchildren to all of their extra-curricular activities. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Gene Simpson.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Werne of Dale; three daughters, Tracy Pund of Tell City, Jodi (Josh) Hufnagel of Dale and Jamie (Ryan) Gasser of Huntingburg; three sisters, Faye (Jim) Mauzey of Dale, Cathy Seifert of Dale and Bev (Ken) Beasley of Dale; one brother, Phil (Rene) Simpson; seven grandchildren, Kayla (Shane) Oxford of St. Meinrad, Aubrey (Sam) Lynam of Grandview, Payton (Cody) Arnold of Santa Claus, Grant Pund of St. Anthony, Colton Gasser of Huntingburg, Eli Hufnagel of Dale and Camden Gasser of Huntingburg; and four great-grandchildren, River, Willow, Oakley and Ty and one on the way.
Funeral services for Janice “Elaine” Werne will be held at the Gentryville United Methodist Church for the family and extended family. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gentryville United Methodist Church or to Chemo Buddies.
