James Walter McCallister, 89, Huntingburg
January 8, 2021James (Jim) Walter McCallister beloved husband, daddy and paps, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 17, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 89 years old. Jim was born May 11, 1931 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Allen and Margaret McCallister. He married Virginia McCallister on March 15, 1950 in Midland City, Alabama. Jim was a graduate of Midland City High School. He worked for DMI for 47 years and retired as Vice President of Manufacturing. Jim served in the United States Air Force from December 1951 until December 1955. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent and received an honorable discharge.

Jim loved Alabama football and playing golf with friends and family. Jim was a member of Santa Claus United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club and distributed flags in Christmas Lake Village for various holidays including Memorial Day. Jim was also involved in many other community outreach programs around Santa Claus, including serving as a Poll Watcher in Spencer County, Indiana. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia McCallister. Jim is survived by his children: one son Patrick (Kathy) McCallister of Gulf Breeze, FL; two daughters, Kathy (Rick) Watson of Antioch, TN and Jeannie (Creg) Stotts of Hendersonville, TN; one sister, Cynthia Cox; grandchildren, Lindsay (Cary) Campbell, Zach (Kim) Watson, Taylor (Nicole) McCallister, Katie (Josh) Landis and Jamie (Matt) Mraz; great grandchildren, Patrick and Caroline Campbell, Grayson, Jace and Courtland McCallister. Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald McCallister, Bill McCallister, Bobby McCallister and sisters Phyllis Frandsen and Janet Hollis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Claus United Methodist Church, 351 North Holiday Blvd, Santa Claus, IN 47579.
*Celebration of Life service originally set for January 16th will now be held at a later date.
