IRELAND — Police accused a Pike County woman of impaired driving after a Saturday night traffic stop east of Ireland.
A Dubois County Sheriff’s Department deputy began watching a 1998 Dodge pickup truck after observing it squeal its tires at the State Road 56 and Hoffman Road intersection.
A deputy made contact with the driver, Kristina M. Lewis, 33, Winslow, near State Road 56 and Shamrock Lane after observing the truck drive over the fog line and exceed the speed limit multiple times.
The sheriff’s department alleges Lewis’ blood alcohol content tested .155 percent at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and she was driving on a suspended license.
Authorities booked Lewis into the Dubois County Security Center at 11:42 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated and a preliminary misdemeanor count of driving while suspended (prior). The sheriff’s department said the preliminary impaired driving charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction for the offense within the last five years.
