JASPER — Indiana State Police placed a Jasper man under arrest at 12 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly walked into a street in front of a passing trooper’s patrol car, then ran when the officer turned around to speak with him.
The incident occurred at Sixth and Bohnert streets.
Police say Alejandro Espinosa de Los Monteros, 26, 1676 Scarlet Oak Drive, stepped into the driving lane in front of the trooper twice, forcing the officer to swerve to avoid hitting him. When the trooper turned around to speak with Espinosa de Los Monteros, he was alleged to have taken off his sandals and ran south into a driveway. He was located about 10 minutes later walking in the area.
Authorities said Espinosa de Los Monteros’ blood alcohol content tested .35 percent when the trooper administered a preliminary breath test.
Espinosa de Los Monteros was taken to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for medical clearance and was then booked into the Dubois County Security Center. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of public intoxication and posted bond Tuesday.
