INDOT Work to close SR 56 near Ireland

From Local Sources

IRELAND — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a complete road closure for a pipe replacement project on State Road 56 near Ireland.

Beginning on or around Tuesday, INDOT maintenance crews will close State Road 56 from U.S. 231 to State Road 257 in Otwell as they replace a drainage culvert. The actual replacement will be between county road 600 and 550. The operation requires a full closure as crews will be making a full width cut in the pavement to excavate the existing pipe. Once they’re finished with the replacement, motorists should expect a rough spot while fill material is compacted under traffic conditions.

The operation is scheduled to take two days, depending upon weather conditions. The closure will not begin until all school bus traffic has cleared for the morning and will be open for the afternoon bus schedule. During the closure, local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, but through traffic will need to use the official detour using state roads 257 and 64 and U.S. 231.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
