Indianapolis records 200th homicide of 2020
October 28, 2020By The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis has reached a grim milestone with the city's 200th homicide of the year, reports said.
An adult male was found Tuesday evening inside a car “with injuries consistent with undisclosed trauma," Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman William Young said.
The death discovered in a residential area near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the city’s 200 homicide of the year, WISH-TV and WRTV-TV reported.
No additional details on the victim or a possible suspect were immediately available.
Indianapolis recorded 172 homicides in 2019, 178 in 2018 and 179 in 2017.
Young said officers find the growing homicide rate “disheartening."
“We know the community is frustrated,” Young added. “We hear the concerns. We know the concerns. We’re working on it.”
The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death and release the name of the victim after his family has been notified, Young said.
