Locals compete in state cheer contest

A couple of local cheer squads represented their schools at the state level this weekend.

Northeast Dubois and Jasper competed in state Saturday at New Castle in the Indiana Cheer Championship Varsity State Finals, a competition run by the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Jasper competed and took fifth place in the Varsity B division, which was won by Bishop Dwenger. Northeast Dubois finished third in Varsity Coed, which was won by New Albany.

The competition featured 38 high school timeout teams competing for the first time, and 40 varsity cheerleading teams from around the state.
