IHSAA future sectional pairings announcedApril 29, 2019
From Herald Staff Reports
On Monday afternoon, the IHSAA announced the football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer and volleyball sectional pairings for the upcoming seasons.
These pairings were approved by the IHSAA Executive Committee for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Several local teams will be competing in new sectional groups while others moved up to entirely new classes due to success factor.
Here’s a brief rundown of the sectional groupings for the respective sports and the changes that happened in each one.
Sectional 32 in Class 3A has been completely realigned with Southridge moving up a class due to the success factor. The Raiders and Heritage Hills will join Corydon Central, Evansville Bosse, Gibson Southern, Mount Vernon, North Harrison and Salem in this new look sectional.
Pike Central, Princeton, Vincennes Lincoln and Washington moved to Sectional 30 with Brown County, Edgewood, Owen Valley and Sullivan.
The one change in Class 4A sectional 24 is the addition of Evansville Memorial as they are playing up a level due to success in Class 3A. They replace Owen Valley as Jasper remains the only local team in this sectional.
Crawford County takes Southridge’s former spot in Class 2A sectional 40 as Forest Park remains in this same grouping with Mater Dei, Linton, North Knox, North Posey, South Spencer and Tell City.
Fans of the old single class basketball system will be happy to see the changes made to Class 2A sectional 48.
Southridge rejoins county foe Forest Park in this grouping after the Raiders moved down from 3A to 2A. Perry Central and Tell City moved out of this sectional to sectional 46.
The only other local change comes in Class 1A in sectional 64 as Vincennes Rivet joins Northeast Dubois’ sectional as this grouping now has six teams.
Class 4A sectional 16 with Jasper and Class 3A sectional 32 with Heritage Hills remain the same.
The girls basketball sectional pairings nearly mirror the boys sectional pairings as Southridge joins Forest Park in the 2A sectional.
Jasper, Northeast Dubois’ and Heritage Hills’ pairings remain the same.
The only local change in the boys soccer sectional pairings is in Class 1A sectional 48. Shoals is a new member to this sectional that includes Forest Park, Northeast Dubois, North Posey, South Spencer, Tell City and Wood Memorial.
Jasper, Southridge and Heritage Hills remain in the exact same sectional pairings.
On the girls side, Jasper will no longer have to deal with Gibson Southern in Class 2A sectional 30. However, they move to sectional 32 which includes Heritage Hills.
Forest Park and Northeast Dubois both had some changes in Class 1A as they moved from sectional 45 to sectional 48. They’ll be paired with Evansville Day, North Posey, South Spencer and Wood Memorial.
