IHSAA fall sports to proceed on time

From staff reports

While the high school sports governing associations in other states made changes to their prep schedules on Wednesday, the Indiana High School Athletic Association is staying pat for now. Girls golf practice will begin Friday, and the season will start Monday.

The official website of WSBT TV based in South Bend reported Wednesday that the IHSAA will have new social distancing in place for golf and girls volleyball. Golf will do without registration areas, and golfers will have to report to the tee box 10 minutes before their scheduled tee time. Spectators and parents will also adhere to the social distancing guidelines that the participants do, but fans may have stricter guidelines. Players are asked to keep six feet apart from teammates and their opponents, and they will read their scorecard instead of exchanging them following the round.

Volleyball teams will not switch benches after each set, while the coin toss to determine who serves and receives will be done away with. The report said the visiting team will serve on the opening set of the match and alternate the first serve for the rest of non-deciding sets.
