Icy conditions lead to Huntingburg-area mishapFebruary 14, 2019
From Local Sources
HUNTINGBURG — No injuries were reported after an ice-induced mishap Sunday morning just north of Huntingburg.
Ricky W. Bauer, 60, Jasper, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2008 GMC Canyon when the 7:45 a.m. accident occurred near Phoenix Drive, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
Bauer said a northbound vehicle began sliding on the icy roadway. When he reacted by lifting off on his truck’s accelerator, the GMC slid across the centerline and struck a guardrail.
The sheriff’s department said the highway was covered in ice at the time because of incoming sleet.
Damage to the truck’s front bumper was thought to be less than $1,000.
