Icy conditions lead to Ferdinand-area mishap

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — Icy conditions were cited in a Tuesday mishap near the Ferdinand State Forest.

Drew E. Hurst, 16, Jasper, was eastbound on State Road 264 in a 2013 Volkswagen passenger car when the 11:27 a.m. mishap occurred at County Road 600E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said Hurst lost control of the car because of ice on the roadway, causing the car to run off the roadway and strike a caution chevron sign in a curve, knocking down the sign.

Damage to the sign and the passenger side of the Volkswagen was estimated at $3,500.
