Ice sends car into highway guardrails

JASPER — A woman was transported to be checked out after her car struck highway guardrails Thursday evening south of Jasper.
Wendy K. Rasche, 44, Jasper, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu when the 6:43 p.m. accident occurred near WITZ Road, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
Rasche told a deputy she had been following a truck that was, in her opinion, all over the roadway. She slowed to put distance between her car and the truck and, when she did, her Malibu slid on roadway ice.
The sheriff’s department reported Rasche’s car struck the guardrail on the east side of the highway, then skidded to the west side of the roadway, stopping after striking the opposite guardrail.
Rasche was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center to be checked, according to the sheriff’s department.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Uebelhor & Sons wrecker assisted.
