I-64 speeder accused of impairment

FERDINAND — Police accused a motorist of impaired driving after a Wednesday afternoon traffic stop along I-64 west of the Ferdinand exit.

An Indiana State Police trooper stopped a westbound 2008 Kia driven by John J. Ballard, 51, Landis, North Carolina, at 4:49 p.m. after clocking it at 86 mph in the 70 mph zone near the 62 mile marker.

The trooper said Ballard exhibited signs of impairment and had a blood alcohol content that tested .176% after a blood draw at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Authorities booked Ballard into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:27 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated.
