FERDINAND — A car fire along I-64 brought the St. Meinrad Volunteer Fire Department to a point east of the Ferdinand exit Monday.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:41 a.m. CT to the 64.5-mile marker. The fire that forced the closure of the westbound lane while it was extinguished destroyed the sedan.

Five trucks and 12 firefighters responded.
