Hydrant flushing starts next week

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — The city water department will start its fall hydrant flushing Tuesday, Sept. 4. The flushing will last through Friday, Oct. 5. It will be done between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Hydrants are flushed to improve water quality and it’s part of waterline maintenance.

“Although it may appear to waste water, flushing improves pressures and flow rates needed for fire protection, aids in maintaining proper valve and hydrant operation and helps to provide better overall water service to our customers,” a city spokesperson said in a release about the flushing.

Water is safe to drink. Before doing laundry, customers are advised to run cold water through their taps for five to seven minutes to clear any discoloration in the water that may adversely affect laundry items. The City of Huntingburg is not responsible for the cleaning and/or replacement of those items, the spokesperson said.
