Hurley thanks voters
November 16, 2020To the editor:
Thank you to all those who voted in this year’s General Election. Although unsuccessful in the bid for State Representative of Indiana’s 75th District, several milestones were achieved. The campaign raised nearly 2.5 times the amount my Republican opponent raised from over 150 contributors (and twice the amount the campaign raised in 2018), fielded dozens of volunteers, and even attracted the attention of a national political action committee that ran a negative attack campaign against my candidacy.Must mean I was doing something right.
While the end results were disappointing, the issues on which I ran — supporting public education, protecting working families, and defending our Constitutional Rights (all of them, for everyone) — did not disappear. I urge all citizens to contact the new state representative-elect, Cindy Ledbetter, with your concerns and priorities. Now is the time to make your voice heard on issues that actually matter, before the elitist Indianapolis-area politicians have more of a chance to wield their influence. I wish Mrs. Ledbetter the best as she continues her political career and I am hopeful she is willing to champion issues that impact Hoosiers on a daily basis. If a legislator is to adhere to her campaign slogan and be “a voice for the people," one must be willing to listen, even to those with whom you disagree.
