Huntingburg man charged in Walmart theft

JASPER — Authorities booked a man into the Dubois County Security Center Wednesday afternoon on a warrant charging him with theft.
Charging information alleges that, on Feb. 3, Darrel R. Harris Jr., 29, 1106 N. Chestnut St., Huntingburg, took merchandise valued at $143.74 from the Walmart Supercenter, 4040 N. Newton St.
The Jasper Police Department investigated and, on March 2, a warrant was issued out of Dubois Superior Court charging Harris in connection with the theft. Prosecutors also intend to seek an enhanced penalty for theft based on a prior conviction, raising the charge to a Level 6 felony.
Authorities booked Harris into the security center at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday on the active warrant.
