Holy Trinity announces Young Christian Award recipients

Ava Rees
Wesley Eckman

JASPER — Following graduation Mass, two eighth grade students were awarded the Young Christian Award from Holy Trinity Catholic School’s Class of 2021. This award is given to one eighth grade boy and one eighth grade girl that excel in leadership, service and overall character. This award is voted upon by Holy Trinity Middle School faculty and school administration.

The female recipient of the 2021 Young Christian Award is Ava Rees, daughter of Aaron and the late Amanda (Garland) Rees of Jasper. Throughout her time at Holy Trinity Catholic School, Ava was one of the top academic eighth grade students. She was active in the Builders Club, served as a Student Ambassador, and played on the Holy Trinity volleyball team. Three things she wants most out of life are to become successful, live life to the fullest and make others happy. In fact, she felt the biggest way she made a difference this year was offering to help others in need. This will most certainly help her in the future as an aspiring oncologist.

The male recipient of the 2021 Young Christian Award is Wesley Eckman, son of Brian and Tara Eckman of Jasper. Throughout his time at Holy Trinity Catholic School, Wesley was also one of the top academic eighth grade students. He was involved in numerous extracurricular activities: Student Ambassadors, Builders Club, Theater Productions, BPA, Destination Imagination and Cross Country. An example of this student’s impact to his community, he responded to the prompt, “I made a difference this year” by stating, “I helped people who needed and wanted access to things like volunteering at the vaccination clinic and senior citizen dinner.” These are only a few of the many ways he has and will continue to “Go Forth to Serve.”
