Holland Kiwanis

The Holland Kiwanis met at the Holland American Legion on Thursday, Sept. 2. President Lynn Kahle called the meeting to order. After the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, and the singing of My Country Tis of Thee, President Kahle brought up the business for the day. A request for a donation to the Holland Elementary Fall Fest was received from the Holland PTO. A motion was made to make a donation of $100 on behalf of Kiwanis by Bev Schmutzler and seconded by Ron LaGrange. Motion was approved. A second request was received from the Holland Volunteer Fire Department for a donation to their February Dine and Dance. A motion to donate $100 by Ron LaGrange and seconded by Dave Springston. The motion was approved.

President Kahle reported that the freezer was functioning properly and tire repair on the trailer is pending. President Kahle reported that the worksheet was almost full with only one slot remaining. Brenda Kahle gave a report on items needing to be ordered. Prices were reviewed and set for the upcoming Holland Fest and Herbstfest. With no further business, President Kahle turned the meeting over to the speaker of the day, Kelly Murphy.

Mr. Murphy gave a background on his coaching career, which began in 1996 while still in college. His first job was with Wood Memorial. He spent seven years at Wood Memorial before accepting a job with Southridge High School. Mr. Murphy then revealed some of the more humorous things that happened during his tenure including experiences with coaches and players.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
