The Holland Kiwanis Club met at the Holland American Legion on Thursday, Aug. 12. President Lynn Kahle opened the meeting with the Pledge, a prayer, and the singing of "My Country Tis of Thee." President Kahle then spent a few moments reflecting on the passing of long time member Ron Henke. Mr. Henke had been a member of the Holland Kiwanis Club since 1977. Pastor Keith Chanley informed members of the times of visitation and the funeral service for Mr. Henke which will take place at the Holland United Methodist Church. The Club decided to give a memorial in honor of Mr. Henke.
President Kahle then inducted Greg Gogel into the Holland Kiwanis Club and presented him with his membership certificate. With no further business President Kahle then turned the meeting over to Greg Gogel who introduced his speaker of the day, Kyle Swafford. Mr. Swafford is the new basketball coach for the Southridge Raiders.
Coach Swafford graduated from Edgewood High School and has coached at Monrovia High School for the past eight years. In coming to Southridge, Coach Swafford in addition to his coaching duties will also be teaching health and PE. He also will be Dean of Students and Assistant A.D. for Southridge Middle School and High School. Coach Swafford stated that he has a passion for coaching as coaching not only is about winning and losing but it teaches life lessons to the athletes. He seeks to be a positive influence on all students that he is associated with.
After a short question-and-answer session, the meeting was then adjourned.
