Holding cell scuffle brings charges

JASPER — A scuffle in a police holding cell sent a Jasper man to jail on multiple charges Friday night.

The 9 p.m. incident began when Joshua Cummins, 32, 314 W. Ninth St., Jasper, came to the Jasper Police Department and caused a disturbance on the sidewalk by yelling at a female victim, police reported.

Police say Cummins became combative toward officers while in a holding cell at Jasper’s police station, punching one officer and attempting to take a holstered weapon away from two officers.

Authorities booked Cummins into the Dubois County Security Center at 12:15 a.m. Saturday on preliminary charges that included Level 5 felony attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, Level 6 felony battery on a public safety official and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, intimidation, disorderly conduct and harassment.
