Historical society program set for Sunday

IRELAND — The February program of the Ireland Historical Society will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Ireland Historical Building. This is the meeting that was planned for Jan. 20; however, the weather caused the cancellation. The public is invited.

The military veterans of the Ireland High School Class of 1967 will provide an educational view of their experiences while they were in the service of the country. Thirteen men of the class, comprising over 65 percent of the males of the class, served in the military in the Army, Navy or Marines. Eleven of the men are still living.

The purpose of the society is to collect and display pictures and artifacts of the area of Ireland, Madison Township, Portersville and Boone Township. Any item or picture must have a history to explain the item or picture.

The membership dues of $10 per person are due. Send dues to Ireland Historical Society, P.O. Box 71, Ireland IN 47545. The membership base is important. Help keep the ongoing history of the area alive. There is a lifetime membership for $200.

The Ireland Historical Society published a history book entitled “A History of Ireland, Indiana An Irish Blessing for 200 years — 1816-2016.” This book consists of 260 pages that includes over 425 pictures. Part of the book has newspaper articles dating back to 1853. The book has several historical sites identified. Original publications of 330 books have been sold. More copies will be published if there are orders. The book is $55, plus $8 postage. Call 812-639-7646 for information or to place an order.

All military veterans, past and present from anywhere, are especially invited to attend. Refreshments will be available after the program.
