Herald wins national picture editing contest

JASPER — The Herald won top honors in The Best of Photojournalism national picture editing contest, taking first place in the Newspaper Picture Editors of the Year category for newspapers with circulation of less than 65,000.

The Herald’s entries were edited by Visuals Editor Dave Weatherwax, Chief Photographer Sarah Ann Jump, Photographer Brittney Lohmiller, Managing Editor Justin Rumbach and Publisher John Rumbach.

The Herald’s portfolio, which can be viewed here, included Saturday Feature stories about Leroy and Donna Bleemel raising their grandson; the Knepp family of Mennonites; Max and Sophie Birge facing the death of their father; Dubois County Sheriff Donny Lampert; and Ed and Karen Young’s experience with dementia. Also showcased was coverage of U.S. Sen. Mike Braun’s election, the Otwell Fourth of July Celebration, Jasper and Forest Park high school marching bands competing at the state competition and Celestine’s Fashions of Yesteryear contest.
